You can always send us a copy, or notify us of your intentions, so we can follow up and make sure that your gifts are being directed, as you wished. Special Donations

United Way of Clinton County runs a giving campaign yearly in the fall. Our campaign for funds to support programs in 2009 will begin September 2008 and run through the end of the year. Of course we accept your gifts any time of year that you feel inclined or are able to give. What we call Special Division, are gifts from private donors. When we do our mail campaign in September for this Division, those folks mail their one-time gifts directly to us, and these are considered Special Division. These gifts can be made at anytime, but we only solicit them in the fall.

Payroll Donations

Payroll giving is another way to support us. We will continue to be contacting more and more companies to join in our efforts. If your company will run a campaign, then you can give to United Way, the easiest way of all, by payroll deduction. This is our biggest division of where our dollars come from, and yet a large portion of Clinton County is not participating in our campaign. If you would like to see your company welcome us , to present a campaign, please share with them , or let us know, in case we have missed them.

Corporate/Business Donations

The final division from which our dollars come in, is from
companies or businesses. Some of these are one time gifts like the special division and some are Corporate gifts, based on the amount of support shown by the employee campaigns runs at the companies. When your company bases its corporate gift on your employee campaign, you become a real catalyst for change through the Untied Way system, since you are motivating the company to give more, according to how you give.

United Way has been associated with a saying called :
Fair Share Giving. It originated to answer this question:
How do I begin to know what to give??
Every gift is appreciated, and important, since our combined efforts are what makes United Way work.  Fair Share suggests, one hour of pay per month, as a guideline for givers, who are not sure where to start.   United Way of Clinton County considers all givers of any amounts, CHAMPIONS!!

We have several levels of Champions that will be publicized to the community to show their initiative in Leading by Example.

{Levels are dollar amount named up to next level named}

  • $ 250.00 Bronze Level Champions
    (formerly Red Feather)
  • $ 500.00 Silver Level Champions
  • $1000.00 Gold Level Champions
  • $2500.00 Platinum Level Champions

Some common question and concerns about
your United Way giving:

"What if there is a United Way agency that I do not necessarily like?"
We respect your right to have this opinion. You mark your designation card to block out an agency if you choose. Remember though, that a wide variety of services are performed by United Way agencies throughout the community. Children, the elderly, and others in need are all helped through your contribution. If everyone supported only one or two agencies, then some other needs provided by United Way's diversity, may go unmet. United Way strives to provide assistance for many areas of need.

"My favorite agency is not a member of United Way"....
United Way maintains an opened door policy with respect to an agency applying for admission. Not every agency may be admitted because they may not meet the qualifications; another agency is providing the same service; or the volunteers did not agree that the agency was prepared to be admitted for continued funding; but any 501(c)3 status agency wishing to apply, will be given that opportunity.

"I am, or was pressured to give, and now I resent it!"
The purpose of a United Way campaign is to give folks the opportunity to share so that others can receive the help that they need. Volunteerism is the foundation on which all United Way systems of human service are based. It is the volunteers who guide the system, plan programs, and allocate the funds. Most United Way Boards, including ours, actively discourage coercion. Pressure, defeats the idea of volunteerism and reduces contributions. Naturally volunteers tend to get pretty excited about the cause, and enthusiasm can sometimes seem like pressure. ASKING is a MUST-pressure is a negative. An example or guideline of giving is sometimes suggested at 1% per year or one hour per month of pay, but this is intended only as a suggestion for those not sure where to begin. All donations are welcomed and appreciated in any amount. We all make a difference when we combine our efforts and dollars!
